Children’s data
Who gives us a child’s information
Only you, the parent or legal guardian. FairyTakes accounts are for adults, and a child cannot order a film or sign in. At checkout you confirm that you are the child’s parent or legal guardian, and we keep a record of that confirmation.
We do not collect anything directly from a child. If you believe a child has given us information without a parent, write to us and we will delete it.
What we collect about a child
- A first name, used in the film and its credits.
- An age range, such as 4 to 6, so the story suits them. Never a date of birth.
- One photo.
- Your answers to the story questions, such as a favourite toy.
From the photo we make a short written description of how the child looks and the cartoon character sheets. We do not collect a child’s voice, surname, address, school or contact details, and we ask you not to put them in your answers.
What we do with it
One thing: draw a clearly cartoon character that looks like your child, and make the film you ordered. The character is a stylised drawing and is never photorealistic.
We do not:
- show a child’s photo or film to other customers or the public;
- use it for advertising, or build a profile of the child;
- sell it or give it to data brokers;
- use it to train any AI model.
Who else sees it
The photo is sent to the studio that draws the character for us, under terms that forbid using it to train its models. The company that generates the film receives only the cartoon drawings and the scene descriptions, never the photo. Photos and films are stored privately in the European Union. The full list of providers is on the Privacy page.
Inside FairyTakes, a child’s photo can be opened only by the people who run the service, and only when it is needed to make or fix your film.
Private by default
Your child’s film is visible only to you, in your account. You decide who to share it with. We will never publish a film, a poster or a character without asking you separately, in clear words, each time.
How long we keep it
- The photo: deleted 30 days after the film is delivered. This window lets us fix a scene if you ask.
- The cartoon character: kept up to 24 months after your last order, so another film can star the same character. Deleted sooner if you ask.
- The film and poster: kept in your account while it is active, and deleted when you ask or when the account is closed.
Your choices as a parent
At any time you can ask us to:
- show you everything we hold about your child;
- delete the photo, the character, the film, or all of it;
- stop making a film that is not finished, by withdrawing your permission.
Write to fairy@fairytakes.co from the email address of your account, so we know it is you. We act within 30 days, and usually much sooner.
Safety
Every film comes from a story we wrote or reviewed, and the software that makes it refuses unsafe requests. Photos and films are stored privately and opened through links that expire. If we ever find illegal content involving a child, we report it to the authorities as the law requires.
For parents in the United States
FairyTakes is a service for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Information about a child comes only from their parent or guardian, who can review it, have it deleted, and refuse further use by writing to us.
For parents in the EU and the UK
We use a child’s photo and likeness on the basis of your consent as the holder of parental responsibility. You can withdraw it at any time, and you can complain to your data protection authority if you are unhappy with how we handle it.
